FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – A “burn pile” fire that got out of control threatened a West Florence neighborhood Monday morning.
According to West Florence Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Dustin Fails, firefighters were called to a reported 3 acre brush fire located on Will’s Place.
When crews arrived, multiple homes were threatened.
The fire was started by a “burn pile” at a neighbors house, Chief Fails said.
Fire crews were able to keep the fire from reaching any of the houses.
A citation was issues by the South Carolina Forestry Commission for failure to notify and take proper precautions, a press release stated.
Howe Springs Fire Department and the SC Forestry Commission assisted with the fire call.
West Florence Fire Rescue and the SC Forestry Commission wants to remind everyone to make sure that proper notification must happen when planning to burn. In Florence County, that number is 1-800-986-5165.
