CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – A bridge replacement project in our area may slow down your summer commute.
SCDOT will begin replacing the bridge over Grier Swamp on Long Avenue Extension in Conway on Monday.
The bridge was rated structurally deficient.
Construction will create a nearly 3.89 mile detour. Traffic will be detoured along County Club Drive (S-26-165), Broad Street (US 701), Highway 65 (S-26-65), Highway 815 (S-26-813) and Rainwood Road (S-26-961).
Drivers who use that stretch of road say the repair work will cause some headaches but is unavoidable.
“A quick run to the grocery store used to take me 2 mins now it’ll take me about 12. Which probably isn’t that bad in the scheme of things,” said Ben Burroughs who lives on Long Avenue.
SCDOT officials hope to have the project finished by the first of August.
