BRIARCLIFFE ACRES, SC (WBTW) – A woman had her combined engagement and wedding ring stolen from her medicine cabinet by a mover, according to police.
Samuel Britt, 45, of Conway has been charged with grand larceny over $10,000. He was one of four movers hired to help the woman move furniture from a semi-truck into her home in Briarcliffe Acres, police said.
Police recovered the engagement portion of the ring with five diamonds from a pawn shop in Whiteville, NC, on Monday. The wedding portion, which was inscribed, had been broken off.
Britt was identified in the pawn shop’s surveillance video. The car he had been driving during the moving job had been identified by street view surveillance video. Police discovered the car was on “a test drive” with Britt during that day, the report confirms.
During his arrest, Britt told police the wedding band portion of the ring was at a shop in Murrells Inlet or Pawley’s Island, according to the report. He told police he was given $4,500 for the ring.
When police went to recover the ring, the main diamond was missing. The shop owner told police the diamond had been shipped to a diamond cuter in NYC, according to the report. The owner arranged to have the diamond returned uncut to his store, police said.
Britt was booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center and released on $10,000 bond, according to the center’s database.
