A boy was taken from his parents home after deputies found their house filled with filth – including piles of trash, human feces and animal waste.

The incident was discovered on Monday when Baldwin County deputies went to serve a warrant at the home, which is just east of Mobile.

There, deputies uncovered something much more serious- three people living in “very” dangerous conditions in a Silver Hill mobile home that will likely be condemned.

Deputies arrested the man and his wife and removed the couple’s teen son from the filth and placed the boy in child protective services.

The mobile home is filled with filth — piles of trash, garbage, spoiling food covered the floor…along with human and animal feces.

“The conditions were absolutely deplorable, they (deputies) backed out,” Maj. Anthony Lowery of the Baldwin Co. Sheriff’s Office told WKRG-TV.  “The trailer is inhabitable, the black mold, that was inside, the garbage, everything including the waste that was present would make it impossible to live in.”

Gilmer Edwards and Tana Brooks were charged with endangering the welfare of a child and cruelty to animals.

Deputies also removed more than a dozen animals- including dogs, cats and a bird from the residence.

The stench inside the mobile home is overwhelming, in fact, when sheriff’s deputies responded, they were forced to wear respirators.

The 15 year boy is now staying with another family member.

“It wasn’t safe in (deputy’s) minds to breathe that air, there was a lot of mold, a lot of garbage and a lot of other odors inside the trailer.” Lowery said.

“It’s certainly something that will have to be cleaned and then at that point, I still don’t know if it will ever be livable.”
