HOUSTON (CNN Newsource) – A tragic discovery Friday afternoon led to an investigation in Houston over the weekend.

Police say a 10-year-old boy was found inside a dryer in the laundry room of an apartment complex.

Paramedics performed CPR in an effort to revive him, but he was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

The boy’s mother said she saw him alive and drinking water around 5:30 p.m. — about 30 minutes before he was discovered.

KTRK reported the boy was Fernando Hernandez Jr., who was in the third grade.

Police think he was part of a group of kids who were playing hide-and-seek at the complex.

The TV station also reported the children were having “Nerf gun wars” in the apartment complex.

But police are investigating so they can definitively rule out foul play.
