MYRTLE BEACH (WBTW) – Authorities say the body of a distressed swimmer reported missing near the 14th Avenue Pier in Myrtle Beach Saturday evening, was found Monday evening.
Horry County Coroner Robert Edge tells News13 the body of Dorrion Smith, 15, of Durham, NC was recovered from the water just after 5 p.m. Monday near 49th Avenue North.
Edge said the cause of death is drowning. The boy was previously said to be 16 years old.
Myrtle Beach Police Lt. Joey Crosby said the police department had equipment and personnel in the water and on the beach searching for the missing teenager since he was first reported missing.
MBPD says the teen was last seen swimming by the 14th Ave Pier Saturday night.
Myrtle Beach police said U.S. Coast Guard helicopters and SCDNR assisted in the search.
