PAWLEYS ISLAND, SC (WBTW) – Georgetown County officials say the body discovered in a Pawleys Island marsh Thursday evening is that of the dock worker who fell into the Waccamaw River in November and never resurfaced.

Karim Rafi Muhammad Ali, 53, of North Charleston, accidentally fell into the river while completing work on a dock in a Pawleys Island neighborhood November 23. Georgetown County Deputy Coroner Paulette Radcliffe confirms the body found Thursday night is Ali.

Carrie Weaver, Public Information Officer for Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office, says Ali’s body was found in the marsh at 504 Bannockburn Drive south of Hagley Landing in Pawleys Island.

The Georgetown County Coroner’s Office says autopsy results confirmed that Ali’s cause of death was due to drowning.  Mr. Ali had been missing since November 23, 2015 when he fell off of a floating dock while working.  His remains were found on February 18th.
