CALLAWAY, FL  – On Sunday Florida deputies responded to a funeral home after a report that bodies were being improperly stored.

Bay County Sheriff’s Office deputies visited Brocks Home Town Funeral Home, located at 5907 Highway 22 in Callaway. They found 16 bodies “being stored in the main funeral home and in an area called the ‘cooler,’” officials said.

“Investigators counted six bodies being kept in the main part of the funeral home with no refrigeration at all,” deputies said. “Flies were throughout the building.”

Officials said 10 bodies were stored in the “cooler.” That should be kept at 40 degrees or colder, officials said. A thermometer revealed the room to be 62 degrees, officials said.

“None of the bodies had been embalmed. Those remains whose families requested cremation had not been cremated,” deputies said.

A funeral home employee, Gregory Dunphy, allegedly told deputies he had run out of body bags. Officials contacted Felicia Boesch. Boesch’s father owns the funeral home.

“Boesch stated she did perform some cremations and then declined to answer additional questions,” deputies said.

Dunphy is charged with six counts of unlawful preservation and storage of human remains.” Investigators believe Dunphy was responsible for managing the main funeral home and thus responsible for the six bodies being stored there,” deputies said.

Bosch is charged with 10 counts of unlawful preservation and storage of human remains for the bodies kept in the cooler at improper temperatures.
