Community members in Myrtle Beach made sure servicemen overseas feel some love on Valentine’s Day.

Blue Star Mothers of Coastal Carolina packed Valentine’s hero boxes for deployed troops Saturday morning. They stuffed about 85 boxes with sweet treats, snacks, canned goods, toiletries and a Valentine. Five Blue Star mothers even got to pack boxes for their own children. Those boxes will go to servicemen all over the globe, including those in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, and on naval ships in the Mediterranean.  “Valentine’s is important,” said Blue Star Mothers Vice President Carol Dion. “There’s a lot of them that are away from their sweethearts. And there’s a lot of kids that don’t have anybody to give them a Valentine. So hopefully we’ll touch some hearts and make a couple of people really really happy.”

The Blue Star Mothers of Coastal Carolina is preparing to pack Easter boxes for troops overseas soon. They plan to collect goods at the Kroger on Carolina Forest Boulevard.
