NORTH CHARLESTON, SC – The leader of Black Lives Matter Charleston is facing charges of disorderly conduct after being arrested at North Charleston City Hall.

Police say Muhiyidin Elamin Moye, who also goes by Muhiyidin D’baha, interrupted the end of a public safety committee meeting Thursday and was escorted out by several officers.

“We feel like it was senseless and that’s why we’re out here,” said Abraham Jenkins, who helped lead the BLM protest after D’baha was arrested, “that was a perfect example of what are we fighting for.”

North Charleston officials say the demonstrators knew Thursday’s meeting did not have a public comment period and an interruption was against the rules.

D’baha was hauled away as he tried to talk to committee members about the formation of the Citizen’s Advisory Board. The pending board has drawn criticism from some in the community who believe it does not have enough power. The city claims they have worked with D’baha and Department of Justice in constructing the board.

Black Lives Matter Charleston says they plan to be at North Charleston’s next city council meeting.
