WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (AP) – Anthony Chesley intercepted a Kenji Bahar pass and returned it 42 yards for a touchdown with 2:33 left as Coastal Carolina routed Monmouth in the second half to take a 38-17 victory Saturday.
Bahar engineered a five-play, 69-yard opening drive, capped by his 14-yard pass to Reggie White Jr. as the Hawks took a quick 10-0 lead and added a 7-yard strike to Jake Powell to stake out a 17-10 advantage at intermission.
Austin Bradley tied the game in the third quarter on a 6-yard pass to Bruce Mapp to make it 17-17 and Ryan Lee added scoring runs from 17 and 24-yards out to make it 31-17 early in the fourth.
Kenneth Daniels finished with 133 yards on 13 carries to lead the Chanticleers (7-2, 4-1 Big South) and Lee added 121 yards on 16 carries.
Bahar was 23 of 43 for Monmouth (4-6, 3-4), but was intercepted three times.
