MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW)- The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash in Myrtle Beach that happened Saturday afternoon.

Corporal Sonny Collins said it happened around 1:30pm as the driver of a pick-up truck with a trailer hooked on the back was headed south on Highway 501 near Jason Boulevard.

Collins says a bicycle rider attempted to cross Highway 501 and ran into the trailer being carried on the back of the truck.

Troopers say the person riding the bike was killed. Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard identified the victim as 59-year-old Robert Witte. The coroner says Witte died at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center following the crash.

An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow.

Troopers say no charges are expected to be filed in this incident.
