BENNETTSVILLE, SC (WBTW) – A Bennettsville woman is in jail after reportedly pouring acid on a man during an argument Thursday afternoon.
According to a report from Bennettsville police, officers were called to North Cook Street around 1:30 p.m. Thursday. As the officer was pulling up, he was flagged down by a woman outside her home. A man standing in the woman’s yard was being washed off by a water hose, the report states.
The man had obvious burns to his face and arm, the officer notes, and the victim told police that a woman threw acid on him. Paramedics were called and the man was taken to a burn center for treatment.
The officer walked across the street to the home where the argument occurred and spoke with the suspect, Denise Nicole Stanback, 34, of Bennettsville. Stanback told police that she and the victim were in a verbal argument in the front yard. She told the victim to leave and he refused. Moments later, the man attempted to leave, according to the report, and Stanback “doused him with drain cleaner.”
Stanback gave the bottle of “Hot Power Drain Cleaner” to officers and was taken to the Dillon Hospital for treatment to minor burns on her arms. Stanback is charged with assault first degree and is currently being held at the Marlboro County Detention Center.
