Bennettsville postal employee steals money from the mail

Melvin Lewis Jones, age 58, of Bennettsville, South Carolina was charged in a 1-count indictment. 

Jones was charged with stealing money from the mail by a postal employee, a violation of Title 18, U. S. C. §1709. 

The maximum penalty Jones could receive is 5 years imprisonment and a fine of $250,000.00. 

The case was investigated by agents of the United States Postal Service – Office of Inspector General and is assigned to Assistant United States Attorney A. Bradley Parham of the Florence office for prosecution.
