BENNETTSVILLE, SC (WBTW) – A 22-year-old Bennettsville man is behind bars for attempted murder after shooting a man near Robbins Street in late March, deputies say.

Marlboro County Sheriff Fred Knight says deputies arrested Jamal Da’von Easterling, aka “Pap,” for attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and felon in possession of a firearm. The charges stem from an investigation into a shooting that happened March 31 near Robbins Street in Bennettsville.

Lt. Jamie Seales with the sheriff’s office says Easterling shot a man near a church parking lot. The victim rode his bicycle to a neighbor’s home and EMS transported him to the hospital in Cheraw.

Deputies and SLED agents spoke with Easterling’s family during the investigation to let them know he was wanted, but he did not turn himself in to police. Deputies received a tip Wednesday of Easterling’s location, obtained a search warrant and arrested the shooting suspect at a home on Union Street. Lt. Seales says agents are also searching the home for evidence related to the shooting.
