BENNETTSVILLE, SC (WBTW) – An inmate at the  Evans Correctional Institution in Bennettsville is charged with murder in the stabbing death of a fellow inmate Tuesday morning.

Around 6 a.m. Tuesday morning, an inmate at the correctional facility on Highway 9 West in Bennettsville was stabbed to death, according to Marlboro County Coroner Tim Brown. South Carolina Law Enforcement Division says Phillip Antonio Stackhouse, 34, is charged with murder in connection to the crime. Stackhouse is also charged with possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Stackhouse was serving a 13 year sentence for a conviction of assault and battery with intent to kill in Dillon County at the time he reportedly stabbed another inmate to death. Stackhouse, according to online booking records, began that 13 year sentence September 2005.
