A group of Pee Dee law dogs trained in finding hidden drugs were on a mission Wednesday morning at Lamar High School as part of a week long training session by the Battle Born K9 team.
Nine officers and eight dogs from several agencies, including the city and county of Darlington, Florence and Pageland counties and Florence Police Department were a part of the training session.
The “Battle Born K9 training” helps prepare the dog for drug detection and searches.
“With this training we teach the dog to be more independent and rely less upon the input by the handler. We want the dog to actually function very little with the handler interfering. We want the handler to be more of a search manager than a search dictator,” mentioned Co-Owner Battle Born K9 Mel English.
The training will end Thursday and a certification will be held on Friday morning.
