PAWLEYS ISLAND, SC (WBTW) – Horry County recently filed a lawsuit against the Badd Kitty sex shop in Murrells Inlet, saying the owner is in violation of the county’s zoning code.
Despite pending litigation, the owner of Badd Kitty opened a new store in Pawleys Island called Klassy Kitty. The store is located in the Midway at Kings Plaza, in Georgetown County.
Compared to Badd Kitty, Owner John Gaik says Klassy Kitty will sell more upscale lingerie and less adult items.
“Klassy Kitty is just beautiful high end lingerie, no adult products other than a few massages. No DVDs and no magazines,” explained Gaik.
Prior to opening, Gaik wrote Georgetown County’s Planning and Zoning Department saying the store would carry only “non-phallic” adult novelties.
“We promised we’d open an upscale boutique here in Georgetown, and I believe we have delivered on that promise,” he said.
Georgetown County Planning Director Boyd Johnson says they inspected the store and its products last week.
“They do have some adult novelties, but they don’t resemble any part of the human anatomy,” said Johnson.
Unlike Badd Kitty in Horry County, Johnson determined that Klassy Kitty meets regulation.
“We’ve never had any issues in any of our stores and I wish Horry County would be just like Georgetown County and recognize that and leave us alone,” said Gaik.
Cordell Huntley owns Wi Vape 2, right next door. He says Klassy Kitty is clean, well lit and brings in more traffic.
“This is 2016 and everybody needs a little loving and if it adds more spice to your life, hey, that’s a beautiful thing,” stated Huntley.
Gaik says both Badd Kittty and Klassy Kitty promote sexual health and well being and he’s looking forward to Valentine’s Day.
“That is like our Christmas,” he said. “It is a terrific holiday for us.”
