AYNOR, SC (WBTW) – An afternoon accident on US-501 in Horry County claimed the life of a 79-year-old man, according to officials.
South Carolina Highway Patrol Cpl. Sonny Collins says the accident happened around 3 p.m. on US-501 and White Oak Lane near Aynor.
Collins says a 2005 GMC pickup truck traveling east on White Oak Lane stopped at a stop sign. Investigators say the truck then pulled out in front of a 2000 International Truck and the two vehicles collided.
Horry County Deputy Coroner Darris Fowler says Lawrence Lyons, of Aynor, died in the crash. Lyons was transported to Conway Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 4:01 p.m. Fowler says Lyons died from blunt force trauma.
SCHP investigators say both drivers were wearing seatbelts. Collins says no charges will be filed.
