WOODRUFF, SC – Woodruff Police have charged a woman after telling us an eight-year old autistic child was found far from home and no parent could be located for five hours.
The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office says the young boy was found early last Sunday morning running in and out of homes on Pool Street. A neighbor helped deputies learn the child’s identity and home address.
In the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office report, they found the child’s home on Breezy Hill Lane in deplorable condition. Animal feces were found on the floor and trash was everywhere. They say they also found roaches, filthy mattresses on the floor and no food in the refrigerator. Several dogs and cats were at the home without food or water.
Brandy Tucker, the child’s mother was arrested May 19th and charged with neglect of a child/helpless person. She was released later that day.
The child was turned over to the care of the Department of Social Services and taken to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Deputies say the child had a wound on his right foot and may be suffering from a sinus infection.
The child’s mother was finally located Sunday afternoon at her new residence on Poplar Street in Woodruff. She told deputies she had worked third shift and the child was in the care of a roommate while she slept.
