Horry County Police investigate what authorities call an attempted kidnapping.

Authorities say on Sunday, an older man driving a silver Chevrolet Impala tried to kidnap children in the Carolina Forest area.

Police say as two girls played in the front yard of their home on Whetstone Lane, the suspect rode pass the girls several times and the last time, he rolled down the window to try to talk to them but they ran inside.

Lt. Raul Denis with Horry County police advises parents to educate their children.

“You should teach your kids scenarios and you should work with your children, so they understand they shouldn’t give up, they should fight,” said Denis.

Lt. Denis also told News13 the stranger danger method doesn’t work.

“If you ask a kid what a stranger looks like, they’ll say its an ugly, scary guy, that’s not necessarily the case,” he said.

So far, no children have been reported missing. If you have any information call (843) 915-TIPS.

Lt. Denis says another incident Sunday, also in Carolina Forest, in which two boys said they got in the man’s car after he offered them candy, did not happen. Denis says the boys admitted Monday they made the story up.
