LONGS, SC (WBTW) – A Longs woman was attacked in her house by two men who knew her name and now the home and area she grew up in is no longer the same.
Margaret McCray has lived on Castlers Heights Road in Longs her entire life. She is surrounded by family members on both sides of her home.
Last week, two men broke into that home.
“I still feel scared. I feel jittery,” said McCray.
McCray says the break-in happened around 8pm. She has visible bruising on her face, she says from one of the men hitting her.
For an hour, she says she was held at gun point by one of the men while the other one went through her home.
The only other people in the house were McCray’s disabled husband and a friend’s two-year-old baby she was watching.
She says what is most terrifying is the intruders called her by name.
“They might come right back and do the same thing and it might be worse,” said McCray.
That’s a fear shared by her son.
“When I grew up, we didn’t’ have this kind of stuff going on in this community,” said McCray’s son Eric Jordan.
Jordan is the one who reached out to News 13 to do the story.
He says Castlers Heights has changed, but he believes it is only a few people causing issues.
“We have to forgive them, but just because we forgive you does not mean you won’t pay the consequences of what you’ve done,” said Jordan.
McCray says the reason she is willing to relive this nightmare is so that she can have justice.
“Those guys need to be caught because they are not going to stop if somebody doesn’t catch them”
Now McCray sits and waits for that day, hoping the attackers never come back.
Horry County Police documents say there was 58 calls for service to Castlers Heights within the year. Many of the calls were for gun activity.
Police haven’t given any descriptions of the suspects.
