Athletes from across the country compete in Myrtle Beach Marathon

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Thousands of runners were on the streets of Myrtle Beach Saturday morning for the 19th annual Myrtle Beach Marathon.

The race started near Broadway at the Beach and runners crossed the finish line was at Ticket-Return-dot-com field.

A full marathon, half marathon, and the marathon-relay took place Saturday, .

The race attracted participants from around the country, including Chuck Engle who holds the U.S. record for most marathon wins in a career.

“This is one on my bucket list, Myrtle beach, you’ve got to come down and see the ocean, I’ve done over 400. I’ve actually won a marathon in all 50 states,” said Engle.

It was Engle’s fourth marathon in as many weeks, and he said it was a last minute decision to run.

“Just had to do the race, they say its flat, fast and I really thought I could come down here and have a great race.  And its beautiful I loved it, love the course love the ocean,” said Engle.

After a 7 hour drive to get there, Engle finished fourth, just under 9 minutes behind the winner, Bradley Reach from Illinois.
