GEORGETOWN, SC (WBTW) – This Mother’s Day weekend people in Georgetown celebrated the first Artwalk.

Waterfront parks and shops along Front Street displayed work by local artists. Vistiors enjoyed sculptures, paintings and photograpy.

Organizers say they wanted to use Mother’s Day as an excuse to get families out and appreciate the area.

“We are a community of moms here and we wanted to be able to enjoy it and thats why we picked this weekend,” said Leslie Ayers, the executive director of Georgetown’s cultural council.

Ayers said more than 3,500 people strolled through Front St. over the weekend. Organizers plan to hold Artwalks annually and always on mothers day weekend.
