LAKE CITY, SC (WBTW) – You only have a few more days to check out ArtFields. The nine-day art competition is coming to an end on Saturday, April 28.
Since April 20, Lake City residents and visitors have been stopping by to check out hundreds of works of art that are spread out in businesses downtown. Boutique and shop owners say they’re reaping the benefits of having extra customers this week.
“It’s good for commerce. We sell some things, a lot more things because we have a crowd. And it promotes the town,” said Eddie Epps. “A lot of people come here from a long way and many of them come back so it helps our town to be recognized.”
Some owners say they get more business during the 9 days of ArtFields than they do during some of the biggest shopping days of the year.
“It’s the biggest time of year for this particular business. It’s biggest than Christmas and it’s bigger than Mother’s Day, Easter or any other large business time,” said Clark Ward of Ward’s Comfort and Style.
“We just enjoy seeing all of the visitors from all different locations, even out of the state. And we enjoy seeing them enjoy the art and we are just happy to have the visitors.“
ArtFields is an annual competition that draws in artists from across the Southeast. Artists are competing for cash prizes. More than $120,000 is awarded each year. This year’s winners will be announced on Saturday at the ArtFields Finale on the Village Green. The event will kick off at 7:30 PM and will end with a fireworks show around 10 PM.
