Arrests made after multiple fights at Hemingway High School

HEMINGWAY, S.C. (WBTW)- Hemingway High School was put under lockdown on Wednesday, after multiple fights on campus.

According to the Hemingway Police Department, officers responded to the high school around 12:30 Wednesday afternoon, and found multiple fights in progress. During its investigation, officers determined only students were involved in the fights.

According to Chief Bryan H. Todd, officers arrested seven students, and took them to the Williamsburg County Detention Center. Their charges range from disturbing schools, to affray. Ten other students were released to the custody of parents or guardians.

Chief Todd says nobody was seriously injured, and the Hemingway Police Department is working with the school district to make sure this doesn’t happen again.

The Williamsburg County Sheriff’s Office, South Carolina Probation Pardon and Parole Services, South Carolina Highway Patrol, Johnsonville Police Department, Williamsburg County Fire Department, and Williamsburg County E.M.S. all responded to the scene as well.
