SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – An arrest has been made in a fatal hit and run that happened in Surfside Beach in early June.
The Surfside Beach Police Department released a statement that confirms Dylan Pete Walker-Shook, 25, of Claremont, NC, has been arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a collision involving death. Walker-Shook is currently being held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center where he is awaiting a bond hearing.
Police say officers responded to the fatal accident June 11, just before 11 p.m. The victim died after being struck while driving a moped.
The Horry County Coroner’s Office identifies the victim as as Billie Ann Waylon, 63 of the Myrtle Beach area. The incident happened on Highway 17 Business and 13th Ave North in Surfside Beach.
Surfside Beach’s Chief of Police, Rodney Keziah says a black Dodge Journey with out of state plates was seen leaving the scene after colliding with the moped. Police report after a long and intensive investigation, law enforcement was able to identify the driver of the SUV as Walker-Shook.
Police reported to the public following the accident that the SUV would have damage to the right front area of the vehicle.
SBPD Chief Rodney Keziah stated, “We are pleased to finally bring closure of this case for the family of the victim involved. This case resulted in many hours of investigation and out of state travel to successfully arrest the offender. I commend all officers and agencies involved in this investigation for their dedication and professionalism.”
Walker-Shook’s bond has been set at $150,000, according to J. Reuben Long Detention Center records.
