MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – South Carolina Highway Patrol officials say an arrest has been made in the car crash that closed Highway 501 early Wednesday morning.
According to Cpl. Sonny Collins, 24-year-old Robert Giovanni Todd, of Conway, was arrested shortly after he reportedly fled the scene of the crash at Carolina Forest Boulevard around 2:45 a.m. Wednesday.
South Carolina Highway Patrol officials reported the driver of a Ford Mustang fled the scene, and the second person involved, the driver of a red pick-up truck, was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Todd was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center at 7:01 a.m. Wednesday on charges of disorderly conduct, hit and run with minor injuries and reckless driving. Todd was released from the detention center on a $1147 bond Wednesday afternoon. Online booking records show Todd was jailed in March 2015 for malicious injury to property, open container of alcohol, possession of marijuana, and possession of anabolic steroids.
Highway 501 at Carolina Forest Boulevard was shut down for an extended period overnight, but reopened around 4:40 a.m. Wednesday morning.
