PICKENS, SC – The Pickens County sheriff held a news conference at 11 AM, Tuesday.
The Sheriff says 35-year-old Farah Reza Khan of Townville was killed on the boat ramp on Sunday.
Detectives have charged Kasey Waldrop, 22, with murder.
Detectives say Waldrop and Khan knew each other.
Investigators found Khan’s car near an apartment complex in Greenville. While they were searching her car, investigators say Waldrop drove up in a car. Investigators found a gun in the car Waldrop was driving. They say he tried to run, but they caught him.
Investigators say they were able to make a quick arrest and give detectives a head start by using a portable fingerprint scanner to identify the victim.
They say it saved them 4-6 hours off the start of the investigation. The Pickens County Sheriff says other people could be charged, but he says there is no threat to the public.
Waldrop was charged with a weapons violation and was held at the Greenville County Detention Center overnight. He was then taken to the Pickens County Detention Facility early Tuesday morning where he waited be arraigned on charges that he murdered Reza Khan.
PREVIOUS STORY: A woman’s body was found near a public boat ramp at the Saluda River in Pickens County Sunday morning.
The Pickens County Coroner has identified the woman as 35-year-old Farah Reza Khan of Townville.
According to Pickens County Sheriff’s Deputies, their department responded around 9am to the boat ramp off of Buck Skin Road after a call was made to 911 about a female who appeared to be injured or possibly dead.
Authorities found Khan’s body at the scene with severe trauma to the head.
The coroner says Khan died after being shot in the head. It was not self-inflicted.
The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death as a homicide until other information can be received from a more extensive examination of Khan’s body.
Deputies have assigned a team of Detectives that are tracking down Khan’s activities and locations where she may have been hours before her death.
No weapon has been recovered at the scene.
There were no witnesses who have come forward at this time.
