CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – The parent of a Homewood Elementary School student was arrested Thursday after a confrontation with the school principal, according to police.
Conway Police officers were dispatched to Homewood Elementary School Thursday morning around 8:55 a.m. after school officials called police when Salahuddin Oneal, 40, of Conway, became irate during a meeting with the principal. According to a police report, Oneal was at the school meeting with administrators regarding his daughter being brought to school late and picked up early on numerous occasions.
When administrators explained to Oneal that he was violating the school’s attendance policy, the conversation escalated, and Oneal began to yell at the school officials saying, “you are evil,” and “you don’t care,” the report states. Before Oneal walked out of the office, he told the school administrators, “you only want to keep a black man down. You only help white folks. You break the law all the time for white folks.”
Oneal began to wander down the school hallway, at which point the principal followed him while repeatedly telling Oneal he could not be in that portion of the school and that police had been called. The report details how Oneal turned around and said “the police don’t scare [me],” and left the building.
Officers later located Oneal and arrested him on one count of disturbing schools. Oneal was booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center Thursday at 3:35 p.m. and was released the following day on a $5,000 bond.
