MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Many parts of Myrtle Beach were hit hard by Hurricane Matthew. While the damage is still being assessed by emergency crews, relief is already underway for both coastal and inland residents of Horry County impacted by this severe storm.

A disaster recovery fund, initiated by the Area Recovery Cooperative, Inc. is now accepting donations. The funds collected for the “Help The Grand Strand” disaster recovery fund will be used for human services that are currently unmet, enabling the residents of the entire Myrtle Beach area to recover from the storm as quickly as possible.

Donors can help in three ways:

    Make your check payable to Waccamaw Community Foundation.  In the memo line of your check, specify Hurricane Matthew Relief Fund.Mail to the Waccamaw Community Foundation at 3655 S. Highway 17 Business Murrells Inlet, SC 29576
  2. Pay by phone

    Call 1-800-356-3016.  Beginning 9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 10, operators will be happy to assist you in processing a credit card payment.

The ARC was established after Hurricane Hugo in 1989 to allow individuals and businesses to help those in need. The fund is administered by the Waccamaw Community Foundation, an organization established in 1999 to assist with charitable donations. Money raised does not go directly to individuals, but to local nonprofit agencies providing specific human relief needs for local citizens.
