GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) – A group that opposes raising gas or other taxes to pay for roads until the South Carolina Department of Transportation is reformed is staging a protest at a Greenville gas station.

The station will reduce its prices Wednesday while members of Americans for Prosperity discuss why they want Gov. Nikki Haley fully in charge of DOT before the agency gets any more money.

Americans For Prosperity will pay the 45 cents that drivers now pay in state and federal gas taxes in addition to the 10-cent gas tax increase proposed by some lawmakers. The event starts at 7:30 a.m. at Eagles gas station west of downtown Greenville.

Americans for Prosperity holds a similar event on Thursday afternoon at Express Petroleum in Summerville.
