Annual Riverfest brings thousands to Conway

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Over 25,000 people were expected to attend the annual Conway Riverfest today. The morning began with an opening ceremony that honored those who serve our country. After the ceremony, a patriotic golf cart parade drove through the streets and vendors opened up their booths.

“We like to enjoy our family friendly environment and that’s what Riverfest is. We like to give honor to our military people and all the ones who have served and fought for our country,” said Gary Lee, President of the Conway Chamber of Commerce.

The festival has been an annual event for over 30 years, and it is always held around the Fourth of July. Lee says the festival brings in newcomers but also keeps people coming back year after year.

Dominick Peburn has come to the Conway Riverfest for the past few years and says, “Every year it seems to be better and more fun and the people here are just the most gracious people you can meet.”

This year’s festival included a Kid Zone with slides, a Jello jump and pony rides. There was also a beer garden for adults down by the river. Organizers said the fireworks show, which began at 9:30 p.m., is typically the most popular event.
