FLORENCE, SC – The week of July 11th, All 4 Autism begins its annual two-week summer camp dedicated to children aged 4-12 with Autism Spectrum Disorder. At the Florence YMCA, Autism Avengers Camp will provide ASD children a time to enjoy camp like every other child in Florence.
“There are very few camps in our area for those with ASD. We wanted to offer a traditional camp experience to autistic children that so many typical children enjoy. Our main goal is to give them the opportunity to interact with their peers, make friends and memories,” said Angela Watts, President of All 4 Autism Board of Directors.
Autism Avengers Camp gives children a safe place to go, where they won’t be judged, said Amy Pennington, development coordinator for All 4 Autism, which was created to enhance parent and community understanding as well as provide needed support to those affected by autism through outreach and advocacy programs.
Made possible with funds raised from Pacing for Pieces Half Marathon and 5K run held yearly in March, the day camp will run from 9 a.m. to noon July 11-14 and July 18-21 at the Florence YMCA located at 1700 Rutherford Drive. Cost of the camp is $30 for one week and $50 for both weeks. Registration forms are available at the Florence YMCA.
Day campers will be surrounded by helpers who understand autism and surrounded by children who share the same diagnosis.
“Camp for me last year meant meeting other awesome kids like me and experiencing friendship for the very first time,” said 13-year-old Davis Butler.
“This camp would not be possible without the amazing support we have received from the YMCA, their staff, and our dedicated volunteers. We are blessed to have local teachers, nurses, and others donate their time and service. Our ASD kids, and their families get to experience a camp where they feel accepted and have the opportunity to participate in activities that are designed specifically for them,” said Jessica Brown, Executive Director for All 4 Autism.About ALL 4 AUTISM
