The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office has issued a release asking for help finding a 10-month-old African wild cat.
The owner of the African Serval says she was walking the cat on a walking trail near Bassett Court on James Island when it got frightened by a dog. The Serval slipped out of its harness and ran into the woods.
The African Serval is described as having a yellowish orange type fur with black spots similar to that of a Cheeta.
The Serval is de-clawed in the front only and is nocturnal.
According to Amanda Pillis, the owner of the cat named ‘Cheeto’ the Serval breed is not aggressive and Cheeto has a microchip implanted in him.
Cheeto was last seen on James Island on Sunday. Jenny Harris, who lives on James Island, managed to take a photo of the wild cat in the road on Sunday night, she wrote on Facebook.
Pillis, age 34, has had Cheeto since he was just a kitten, according to photos on her Facebook page.
This also is not the first time Cheeto has disappeared on James Island. Earlier this month, Pillis posted photos of him saying that he had gone missing, but was later found.
If anyone sees the African Serval they are asked to call the Charleston County Consolidated Dispatch Center at 843.743.7200 or HomeAgain Pet Finders at 1.888.466.3242.
