Actress Daisy Ridley opens up about health issues in Facebook post

(MEDIA GENERAL) – Actress Daisy Ridley, of “Star Wars” fame, opened up on Facebook on Thursday to discuss her recent health issues.

According to Ridley, she recently was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, which has several symptoms and triggers a hormonal imbalance that can cause acne breakouts.

In a Facebook post, including a picture of the 24-year-old donning a clay face mask, Ridley said the difficulties left her struggling with self-confidence and weary of leaving her house.

“I can safely say feeling so self-conscious has left my confidence in tatters,” Ridley said. “I hate wearing makeup, but I currently don’t want to leave the house without it on.”

Ridley is encouraging people to seek help if they don’t feel well and to take care of their bodies, highlighting her need to cut down on sugars and give up dairy – “except for spontaneous ice creams.”

“My point is, to any of you who are suffering (from) anything, go to a doctor. … Keep on top of how your body is feeling and don’t worry about sounding like a hypochondriac. From your head to the tips of your toes we only have one body, let us all make sure ours (are) working in tip-top condition and take help if it’s needed.”

Ridley was a “total unknown” before being cast as Rey in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” Prior to Star Wars, Ridley had played some minor roles on British television shows and short films.
