SURF CITY, N.C. – An eighth person was attacked by a shark — and ended up being admitted to the hospital — along the North Carolina coast over the weekend, a spokesman for the Naval Hospital at Camp Lejeune confirmed Monday.
The reported attack happened Saturday in Surf City. The hospital spokesman said that a male victim was brought into the hospital by a friend.

A 32-year-old Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune was admitted into the Naval Hospital Camp “due to a possible shark bite,” officials said.
The Director of Public Affairs for Camp Lejeune, Nat Fahy, said the Marine was admitted at 10:41 p.m. on July 4th and treated for cuts to his right hand and forearm.
Surf City police told WITN that they did not respond to any reports of a shark bit over the July Fourth holiday weekend.
The Marine was released from the hospital around 3:30 a.m. the next morning.
This is the eighth shark bite off the coast of North Carolina in less than a month and the second one in Surf City. On June 24, an 8-year-old boy received “minor leg and foot injuries” from a shark attack.
