GAFFNEY, S.C. (AP) – Cherokee County officials say a 69-year-old woman has died in a house fire in Gaffney.
County Coroner Dennis Fowler says 69-year-old Gail Ruppe Bright died in the early-morning fire Sunday. He says a neighbor called 911, reporting that he heard someone trapped inside.
Fowler says the one-story home was fully involved when firefighters arrived. He says Bright lived alone at the home and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The corner says it appears Bright was asleep in bed when the fire started. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
Authorities haven’t said what caused the fire.
