66 Chinese Shar Pei dogs rescued from abuse, SC police say

BERKELEY COUNTY, SC – The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office announced this morning that arrests have been made in an animal abuse case involving 66 Chinese Shar Pei dogs that were rescued from 1249 Old Dairy Road in Summerville.

The residence was operating as a makeshift kennel.

The Berkeley County Animal Control was assisted by The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.

Charges have been filed against Tracy Humbert Lamere, 45, John Christopher Barnett, 45, Michael Duane Lauer, 63, and Susan Knisely Lauer, 69.

Each of the defendents were arrested and charged with 21 counts of ill treatment of an animal. They face felony charges punishable by 180 days to 5 years in prison and a fine of $5,000.
