SALTERS, S.C. (WBTW)- The Williamsburg County Sheriff’s Office and the Williamsburg County Fire Department are investigating a deadly mobile home fire.

Deputies say it happened shortly after 4:00 Saturday morning at a mobile home on Blakely Road in Salters.

According to investigators, 65-year-old Rosa Lee Palmer, died in the fire. Deputies say her daughter was severely burned during the structure fire. Deputies say she attempted to get her mother to safety, but she was unsuccessful.

The victim’s daughter received extensive burns on her body and was flown to the Augusta Burn Unit located in Augusta, Georgia for medical treatment, according to the Williamsburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Based on information at the scene, investigators believe the fire started in the middle vicinity of the mobile home.

Palmer’s body will be sent to MUSC in Charleston, South Carolina for an autopsy. SLED will be assisting with the investigation.

The cause of the structure fire is undetermined at this time.
