DARLINGTON, SC (WBTW) – Darlington County firefighters battled a mobile home fire around 9:45 p.m. Thursday that claimed the life of a Mechanicsville man.
Darlington County Fire District Chief Ricky Flowers says firefighters were told there was a resident still inside the home on arrival, but the home on Cashua Ferry Road was engulfed in flames. Crews say it took about two hours to get the fire under control.
Chief Flowers says one person was found dead inside the home after crews extinguished the fire.
Friday afternoon, Darlington County Coroner J Todd Hardee identified the man as 61-year-old James David Blackmon Jr. from Mechanicsville. The coroner says Blackmon was pronounced dead at the scene.
Lt. Robert Kilgo with the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office says the cause of the fire is currently under investigation by Darlington County Fire District, Darlington County Sheriff’s Office and South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division.
