Five people were sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty in connection with the killing of a Darlington man on Christmas Eve 2012, officials said.
The incident took place around 8 pm on December 24 2012, when the three men, along with others, rushed into a home in the 100 block of Coker Street to rob Antwain Demetrious Jones, age 38.
However, Jones was shot and killed during the incident — and at least two suspects fled town until they were caught several days later.
On Thursday at General Sessions Court in Darlington, the trigger man in the incident was sentenced along with several others who were involved, said Darlington Police Lt. Kimberly Nelson.
Michael Rashawn Jackson, then age 25, shot and killed Jones, was charged with murder, Darlington Police said.
Jackson, who fled and was picked up in Atlanta on New Year’s Eve that year, pleaded guilty to Voluntary Manslaughter and received a sentence of 20 years.
On the night of the killing, others then rushed into Jones’s home with the intent on robbing him.
Reginald Danyall Smith, age 23, plead guilty to his involvement in the incident and received 9 years.
Jason Jones, age 33, who also fled for several days after the incident, plead guilty to his involvement and received 8 1/2 years.
Kiarand Bonapart, age 24, plead guilty to his involvement and received 2 years probation and Jonathan Wesley McCall plead guilty to his involvement and received 2 years probation.
The subjects were given credit for time they had already served in jail.
