4th annual Craft Show collects donation for Lowcountry Food Bank

Hundreds of people attended the 4th annual Craft Show in Myrtle Beach, and also helped raise money for those in need.

More than 100 vendors filled four rooms at the base recreation center. They sold everything from quilts, jewelry, woodwork, paintings, and metal pieces. Organizers asked all attendees to bring a donation for the Lowcountry Food Bank. Last year, the show collected two tons of non-perishable goods and $2,000. Founder Mickey Davis said, “Most people find that during Thanksgiving and Christmas there’s a lot of giving and a lot of food but come February there’s nothing and there’s still the unemployment.”

Combining crafts and care is nothing new for vendors bill and dianne shipley The couple from little river makes bibs for people who are phsyically challenged or wheelchair bound, like bill. He survived brain cancer and is now battling esophegial cancer … as well as parkinson’s disease. After seeing so many people at the doctor’s offices carry their medication in ziplocs or boxes … the couple also started making these pill bags. Diane says helping others has brought her healing through bill’s illness. “My girlfriend calls it my therapy. I’m not good at sitting still, so I’m always making something. And it helps you not worry about your problems and think about other things.
