FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – The City of Florence approved the First reading of three ordinances, to use a $40 million dollar bond to pay for several revitalization projects.
If the plan passes a final reading, the money will fund downtown and neighborhood redevelopment projects. However, most of the money would benefit students in Florence School District One. $12 million dollars would will help fund the new RN Beck Early Childhood Center, expand the Poynter Adult Education Program and bring magnet programs to the district.
Florence City Manager, Drew griffin said, “When people look to Florence from the outside. What they will see is a caring, diverse, growing community. That has very positive concerns about how our neighborhoods look, how our downtown looks and we want to create opportunity for children to be in the best educational environment that they can.”
Florence City Council will hold a second reading on the bond ordinances at its next meeting in October. If it passes, a third and final vote will happen in November.
