FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – Greek culture was celebrated all weekend long at the Greek Orthodox Church during another successful year of the Greek Festival.
This was the 36th year of the festival. Church members shared their heritage, traditions, and food with the community from Thursday, May 17 until Sunday, May 20.
Sunday’s closing event featured live performances of traditional dances and a large variety of Greek cuisine including moussaka, eclairs, and souvlaki.
Church members say they’re thankful for 36 years of support from the Pee Dee community and the chance to showcase their culture.
“The festival is giving us the opportunity to give back to the community for their moral and financial support, and the opportunity to present our traditions, our culture, how we work together, play together, and pray together,” said Andrew Kampiziones.
Members of the Greek Orthodox Church say the festival is also a way to help the younger generations preserve Greek culture.
