The identities of more victims — 3 children under the age of 6 — were released after a fatal crash on Interstate 26 in Spartanburg County earlier this month that also killed their father and his girlfriend.
The coroner’s office says Aliyah Sarai Vemira Simpkins, 3, Rachael Naomi Simpkins, 6, and LesLeigh Robin Natalie Simpkins, 4, all of Chicago, died in the crash which took place on March 19.
The identities of Brandon Levoy Robert Simpkins, 30, of North Augusta and Jermy Sonis Givens-Reedus, 29, of Chicago, were released last week.
Simpkins, who was the father of the girls, and Given-Reedus were in a car that was hit by a semi-truck and trailer. Givens-Reedus was Simpkins’ girlfriend, according to Facebook.
One victim, the good Samaritan/pedestrian who was also killed has not been identified. Investigators hope to do so soon.
The cause of death of any of the victims has not been released.
Dennissia McDougald is the mother of the 3 girls who died in the crash and lives in Chicago, according to a GoFundMe page, which was set up to help McDougald pay for the funerals of her 3 girls
The crash took place on westbound I-26 near Highway 92 in Enoree around 10 p.m. that Thursday night. It involved a tractor trailer and three other vehicles.
Both lanes were closed as crews worked the scene. The coroner’s office said the process of identifying the victims was taking longer than usual because of “the sheer force and fire complications in this incident.”
Coroner Rusty Clevenger said his office transported DNA samples and that they were waiting for the results before reporting identification.
