Three people are safe after they were left in the water when their boat sank in Winyah Bay on Friday afternoon.
Coast Guard Sector Charleston says it received a report of 3 people in Winyah Bay from the Georgetown Police Department, just after 3:30 Friday afternoon.
The team launched a rescue boat from Georgetown as well as a helicopter from Charleston in order to rescue those trapped.
Prior to the helicopter arriving to the scene, the Georgetown Police Marine Patrol Unit reached the three people.
WCBD reported the trio was checked out by EMS on scene and then taken back to their vehicle.
There’s currently no word on what caused the boat to sink in the first place.
