SOCASTEE, SC (WBTW) — Residents in Socastee have had enough. Three months after historic rains in South Carolina, some areas in the Horry County community are flooding again.
Chief Meteorologist Frank Johnson says Myrtle Beach could see 1-2 inches of rain on Friday.
Kenneth Homsley lives on Rosewood Drive. His yard has flooded twice in 90 days.
“I’m totally pissed off,” he said. “”I’ve lived here for 25 years, never had this happen before.”
Homsley says he’s lived through earthquakes, volcanoes and snowstorms, but never a flood.
“This is a new experience and I don’t like it,” he stated.
Homsely’s yard was first flooded in October. He spent almost $15,000 replacing the air ducts underneath his house and the condensing unit, only to have it ruined again.
“We didn’t even have 20 hours on it,” he said .
Now his yard looks like a river and his house feels like Antarctica.
“I don’t really know what to say, i’m just flabbergasted about this.”
Homsley, his wife and their dog share one space heater.
“We slept very close,” he laughed.
Friday’s rain certainly wont make things better, but he’s crossing his fingers that it doesn’t get worse.
“Both of us, we’re in middle 60’s, we’re both disabled. we live on a fixed income,” explained Homsley.
The National Weather Service says it can’t predict how the rainfall will affect the nearby Intracoastal Waterway, but there is potential for minor flooding during high tide.
“Anything you do, you’re rolling the dice on this,” he said.
Currently, the National Weather Service has flood warnings for the Waccamaw River in Conway, Little Pee Dee in Galivants Ferry and Santee River in Georgetown.RELATED: StormTracker13 Beach and Inland Forecast
