ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) – Rock Hill police say a York woman has been arrested after leaving three children in a hot car while she was shopping at a Walmart.

The Rock Hill Herald reports 25-year-old Shawnetta Patrice Wright was arrested Friday afternoon. Police say a witness saw three small children crying loudly and drenched in sweat. The witness told police she saw the children in the car for more than 45 minutes with no adult around.

Police said the rear windows were rolled up and the front windows were cracked slightly. The reported temperature outside was 85 degrees at the time.

Wright says she was only inside for a few minutes. Two of the children in the vehicle were hers and the third was her niece.

The children were released to a relative.

Wright was charged with three counts of unlawful conduct toward a child. It is unclear if she has a lawyer.
