BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) – A second Virginia Tech student has been arrested in connection with the death of a 13-year-old girl who disappeared earlier this week.
Virginia Tech issued a statement Sunday confirming the arrest of Natalie Marie Keepers, age 19, a sophomore at the school.
Keepers is the second person to be arrested in the death of Nicole Madison Lovell, whose body was found in North Carolina on Saturday. She has been missing from her home in Blacksburg since the middle of last week.
Police earlier arrested David Eisenhauer, 18, another Virginia Tech student, and charged him with murder in the case.
Nicole was found around 4 p.m. Saturday along N.C. Highway 89 in Surry County, which is northwest of Winston-Salem, Wilson said.
While she was missing, Nicole was without medication she needed because of a liver transplant, officials said.
Eisenhauer, who runs on the Virginia Tech cross country team, is being held without bond at the Montgomery County Jail.
Lovell’s family said she pushed a dresser in front of her bedroom door and climbed out a window on Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.
Police would not say how Eisenhauer and Nicole knew each other.
Eisenhauer has been placed on suspension from the university and cross country team, WSET-TV reported.WNCN News contributed to this report.
